IIT UCEED 2018 - Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design


About


Admissions to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) Programmes at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati and IIITDM Jabalpur are done through the Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design (UCEED) 2018.

Students who have passed Class XII (or equivalent) in 2017, or appearing in 2018, in ANY STREAM (Science, Commerce, or Arts & Humanities) are eligible to appear for UCEED 2018 


UCEED is for admission into following programmes

  • Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programme- 4 years
  • Dual degree B.Des + M.Des Programme- 5 years

The option of doing the dual degree B.Des + M.Des will be available at the end of the 3rd year to the students.

UCEED is a design entrance exam for admission to the B.Des programme at the Industrial Design Centre (IDC), IIT Bombay and IIT Guwahati.



Total number of seats


Seats for B.Des Program: The total number of seats sanctioned for both these programmes together are 105 seats subdivided on the basis of the percentage of reservations IIT Bombay, IIt Guwahati and IITDM Jabalpur.


Reservation of Seats


  • Other Backward Classes belonging to the Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL) – 27% of seats in the course. The name of the backward class should be in the current central list of OBCs (http://www.ncbc.nic.in)
  • Candidates belonging to the creamy layer of OBC are NOT entitled for reservation. Such candidates are treated as belonging to the Open (i.e., unreserved) category.
  • Scheduled Caste (SC) – 15% of seats in the course.
  • Scheduled Tribe (ST) – 7.5% of seats in the course.

Eligibility Criteria 



  • Gender: Both
  • Age limit: The candidate should have been born on or after October 01, 1993 if belonging to the OPEN or OBC-NCL category and on or after October 01, 1988 if belonging to the SC, ST or PwD category.
  • Academic qualification: Candidate should have passed their class 12 or equivalent examination in 2017 or will appear in 2018. students from any stream that is commerce, arts, science can apply for the course. 
  • UCEED Number of attempts: candidate can take UCEED a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years. UCEED score is valid for one year, and only for admissions in the corresponding academic year.
  • Candidates from the Science Stream with Physics, Chemistry and Maths as subjects are eligible to apply to all the three institutes. Candidates from any other stream (Science without Maths or Physics or Chemistry, Commerce, and Arts & Humanities) are eligible to apply to only IIT Bombay and IIITDM Jabalpur.



How to apply


Only UCEED 2018 qualified students can apply for admission to the B. Des programme at IIT Bombay, IIT Guwahati, and IIITDM Jabalpur for the academic year 2018-2019. 

Candidates should register for appearing in UCEED 2018. Application can be done ONLY online through the registration portal.

Application Fee


  • Rs. 1000 + Rs. 180 (18% GST) = Rs. 1180 for all women candidates.
  • Rs. 1000 + Rs. 180 (18% GST) = Rs. 1180 for SC/ST/PwD candidates.
  • Rs. 2000 + Rs. 360 (18% GST) = Rs. 2360 for all other candidates.



NOTE: A late fee of Rs.500 is applicable to ALL candidates for registrations done after the last date




Exam Pattern 


  • There will be ONE question paper of 3 hours duration 
  • The question paper will be in English 
  • The question paper will be administered through a computer based test 
  • The question paper will carry a total of 300 marks
  • The question paper will contain a total of 80 questions distributed among the 6 topics.
  • All 3 sections have NEGATIVE marking



  1. Section A: Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions
  2. Section B: Multiple Select Questions (MSQ)
  3. Section C: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)

Syllabus


The exam will have questions from the following six topics:


  • visualization and spatial ability
  • observation and design sensitivity
  • environmental and social awareness
  • analytical and logical reasoning
  • language and creativity
  • design thinking and problem solving



Candidates must carry a printed copy of the downloaded admit card. Only candidates having a valid admit card will be allowed to write the examination.

Results


  • Results will be declared on February 18, 2018.
  • UCEED results will be available on the website. Candidates need to use their user login and password (created during registration process) for viewing the results on the webpage.
  • UCEED qualified students will be able to download their score cards from February 18, 2018.
  • Hard copy of the UCEED score card will not be available and hence will not be sent to the qualified candidates.
  • Obtaining a rank in UCEED 2018 does not guarantee admission to the B. Des programme.
