NEST 2016 Entrance Exam | Integrated M.Sc

About


  • NEST 2016 (National Entrance Screening Test) is a compulsory test for students seeking admission to NISER Bhubaneswar-National Institute of Science Education and Research and UM-DAE CBS Mumbai- University of Mumbai - Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences
  • Both NISER Bhubaneswar and CBS are autonomous institutions established by Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, in 2007.
  • NEST 2016 is for Admission into Integrated M.Sc in Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. It is a yearly college entrance examination in India, conducted for admission in the participating institutes
  • Scholarship: All students admitted to NISER and CBS are eligible for INSPIRE Scholarship of Rs. 60,000 per year and additional Rs. 20000 per year for Summer Internship.
  • Top Performers of NISER and CBS can directly apply for selection interviews of BARC Training School.

Eligibility Criteria


In order to apply for NEST 2016 Exam, Candidates must qualify all three eligibility criteria listed below:
  • Academic Qualification: Class 12 qualifying examination should be passed in either 2014 or 2015. Candidates appearing in 2016 are also eligible. 
    • The candidates should be from science stream (having any combination of
      Biology/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ Physics) at class XII.
  • Age:
    • Candidates in General and OBC category should be born on or after
      July 15, 1996.
    • For SC/ ST/ Physically Disabled (PD) candidates-The age limit is relaxed by 5 years 
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks:
    • General and OBC category : At least 60% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) in Class 12 (or equivalent) examination from any recognized Board in India.
    • For SC/ ST/ Physically Disabled (PD) candidates, the minimum requirement is 55%.

The candidates can apply for NEST 2016 Exam by any one of the 2 modes:
  • Mode 1: Online
  • Mode 2: Offline


Payment of Fees in the Online Application

  • Demand Draft (DD): Prepare the DD in favour of NISER-NEST, payable at Bhubaneswar. Candidate must write her/his name and application number at the back of the DD.
  • Online Payment (SB Collect): Payment using any Credit/Debit Card or through Net Banking without visiting any Bank. 
Send the printed copy of the application summary page along with below-mentioned documents by speed post to the NEST office at the address of correspondence given below:
  • the Demand Draft (DD) or
  • the Part-C of the NEFT challan (NEST office copy) or
  • the SB Collect receipt

The duly filled in application form should reach the above address on or before 

March 4, 2016.

NEST 2016 Offline Application
  • The off-line application is to be filled on a prescribed form.
  • The student needs to send a request for the offline NEST 2016 application form.
  • The request for the application form must reach the NEST office on or before
     February 2016
  • The application form along with the information brochure will be mailed to the candidate on receiving the request along with the payment.
Payment can be made through
  • Demand Draft (DD): Prepare the DD in favour of NISER NEST, payable at Bhubaneswar. (Candidate must write her/his name and application number on the back of the DD.

Selection Procedure


  • NEST 2016 Result: A Merit List of the candidates will be prepared and posted on NEST 2016 website onJune 2016 on the basis of performance in NEST.
  • The best three subject-scores along with the score in the general section will be counted for evaluation and merit list preparation. 
  • The successful candidates will be called for counselling and admission will be strictly according to the Merit List until all the seats are filled.



Exam Pattern


  • language: The test will be in English Language only.
  • Questions will be designed to test analytic abilities and comprehension of scientific passages.
  • Some of the questions in this section may require knowledge of class 10
    Mathematics.
  • Duration: 3 hours
  • It will be an Objective MCQ Question Type Exam and will consist of 5 sections.
  • Section 1- General Science:  It is compulsory and will have questions on General Science. No Negative marking in this section.
  • Sections 2 to 5 - Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics
    • Candidates are permitted to attempt as many subject-sections as they wish. However, only the best three subject scores along with the score in the general section will be counted for evaluation and merit list preparation. So a candidate must answer questions from at least three of these four sections.
    • It will consist of subject specific questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics.
    • There will be negative marking in Section 2-5 for incorrect answers.

  • Section 3: Chemistry-60 Marks
  • Section 4: Mathematics-60 Marks
  • Section 5: Physics-60 Marks
