7th International English Olympiad (IEO)

About


7th International English Olympiad (IEO) 2016 is an English Olympiad, and first in the history of English language testing in India and is conducted by SOF in association with British Council.


  • It is conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) in association with British Council (BC). IEO is a single level exam and there is no stage 2 of the olympiad.
  • The content of the tests is designed to focus on communication and use of English language, rather than rote learning and correct grammar only.
  • The IEO question paper will be prepared by British Council- using its international expertise and domain knowledge in The English language.
  • The IEO exam will be conducted/ evaluated by SOF.
  • The students will get participation/ winning certification jointly from SOF and BC.

7th International English Olympiad will be held on January 19 & 31, 2017, as per the dates chosen by schools.


From this year SOF has introduced two more Olympiad as follows:

  • International Company Secretaries Olympiad (ICSO)
  • International Sports Knowledge Olympiad (ISKO)

Eligibility Criteria



  • Gender: Both
  • Region: All India
  • Class/ Age: Class 1-12



Details:

  • There is no other eligibility criterion like minimum marks.
  • Students studying in classes 1 to 12 in schools affiliated to CBSE/ ICSE/ and State Boards can take the IEO test.
  • International & State topper  awards will be provided to 1st level winners. IEO is a single level Olympiad.
  • Each winner will be entitled to one award for an exam. The winners will be entitled to the higher level award only. For eg,. the international top 3 rank holders will be entitled to awards based on their International ranks. Awards accruing to them for State ranks will be given to the next rank holder. Similarly, school award accruing to a State award winner will be given to the next rank holder.

IEO 1st Level Exam Awards

 Gold, silver and bronze medal to top 3 rank holders from each section.


If two or more students score the same marks then ranks will be determined on the following basis: 


  • Marks obtained in different sections of the exam. Each section will be accorded separately.
  • Students performance in school during the previous year- as mentioned in the OMR. This may be verified at the discretion of SOF.
  • Age of students with preference given to the younger student.
  • There may be telephonic or personal interview conducted.
  • In case 2 or more students score equally on all parameters defined above, the award may be distributed equally among all winners.

How to Apply



 The IEO is open to the students of classes 1 to 12. 
  • Prospectus containing the Registration forms are sent to all schools registered with SOF. Schools not registered may also request for prospectus by sending an e-mail at info@sofworld.org/ phone call. Schools must return the registration forms to SOF, duly filled in and complete in all respects by the due date.
  • The school's coordinating teacher will generate the students' Roll Numbers as per the guidelines given.
  •  A copy of these roll numbers along with the Students' Registration Sheet (SRS) and School Registration Form (SRF) should be sent to the Foundation's office before August 31, 2016.

  • Foundation will register the applicant school and the students and dispatch question papers and guidelines for conducting the examination. Principals / teachers may please note that any school can be registered as a center for NSO.
  • The NSO is conducted on two dates for Level 1. Each school may select a date for conducting the NSO as per its convenience. Each date of exam has a separate question paper.
  • Students should register through their respective schools only. Individual registrations by students are not accepted.


Fees


A participation fee of Rs. 120 is charged from each student. The school shall retain Rs.20 per student per olympiad for its expenses as exam center.

  • Mode of payment of fees- the school can make the payment via Demand Draft or through NEFT/RTGS
  • Demand Draft should be made in favor of Science Olympiad Foundation Payable at New Delhi.

Selection Process


  • Every student who appears in IEO  is provided with a Student Performance Report (SPR). An SPR is a detailed analysis of how the student attempted the 1st level Olympiad exam.
  • The objective of SPR is to share with the student and her/ his parents, analysis of student’s answers. This is expected to enable the student understand her/his strengths and areas requiring improvement in absolute terms and also on a competitive scale consisting of lacs of students of her/his class who appeared for the Olympiad.
  • The competition is a written objective-type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 35 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 1 to class 4 and 50 objective-type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 5 to class 12.                                                                    

IEO is a single level exam and students would be selected on the basis of marks scored.
Ranking for IEO will be given on the basis of marks obtained in the exam.


(i) The question paper consists of four sections:

Section-1:Word & Structure Knowledge

Section-2:Reading

Section-3:Spoken & Written Expression

Section-4:Achievers Section


(ii) There are separate question papers for each class.

(iii) CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabus is followed for setting the test papers. 

(iv)The exam is conducted during school hours.
