NSEP 2016- Physics Olympiad

About


The National Standard Examination in Physics or NSEP is an examination in physics for higher secondary school students, usually conducted in the end of November. 

Organized by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers, NSEP is the first stage of selection of students in the International Physics Olympiad The student can move forward to other stages only after clearing this stage i.e. Indian National Physics Olympiad (a qualifying stage of International Physics Olympiad).

Eligibility Criteria



  • Gender: any
  • Region: All India
  • Class/Age: up to class 12

Details: 

  • Applicants of NSEP 2016-17 should be born on or after July 1, 1996
  • Applicants should be in class 12 or lower as of November 30, 2016

Not eligible to participate in NSEP 2016:
  •   Students who have passed Class XII are not eligible to enroll for NSEP.


Rewards


The top 1% students from this examination are selected to sit for the Indian National Physics Olympiad.

For NSEP 2016-17, state wise quota for selection of awards has been predefined.


Other Awards and certificates


  • Certificates will be given to top 10% students of each center. 
  • Merit certificates will be given to top 1% student in each subject
  • Special merit certificate and a book to national top 1% students
  • Top 35 students will receive gold medals

NOTE: Gold medalists in NSEP, after completing their education, may join DAE (Department of Atomic Energy) directly through an interview without appearing in their entrance test.


How to Apply


Students can enroll themselves through respective school/college registered as NSEP exam centers.

Fees


Registration fee for NSEP 2016: Rs. 100

The registration fee is to be deposited at the NSEs center at the time of registration. 
No money should be sent to the IAPT office.


Selection process


  • Candidates are shortlisted based on marks obtained in the NSEP Examination by the candidate. More marks obtained by the candidates more will be their probability of being selected.
  • The syllabus for National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP) is almost similar as the curriculum of senior secondary level (Class XI and Class XII) of CBSE. However, only basic guideline for the course is mentioned. No detailed syllabus is given for NSEP.


NSEP 2016-17 Syllabus and Pattern


Part A of 180 marks including 50 multiple choice questions consisting of:

  • A1: 40 questions, each with only one of the four options correct 
  • A2: 10 questions, each with one or more than one options correct. 

To get credit, all correct option (s) and no incorrect option (s) should be marked. 


Part B (60 marks)
  • 5 (or 6) questions which are problems or short-answer type. 

All questions carry equal marks. 

Language: English (However, NSEP question papers may be available in Hindi, and some other regional languages provided there are more than 300 students for that language. Please check with IAPT).

There will be negative marking for the wrong answers.

  • Timings: 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM
