The Common Proficiency Test (CPT) 2016 is conducted by the Council of the Institute Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).
CA CPT Dec 2016 is conducted by ICAI. CA aspirants who have registered for the Common Proficiency Course on or before 01st October 2016 can submit the CA CPT December 2016 application and appear for the Common Proficiency Test that which will be held on 18th December 2016 in two sessions.
[This Common Proficiency Test will be conducted as per provisions of Regulation 25 D (3) of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988]
Exam Dates & Pattern for Common Proficiency Test 2016
Common Proficiency Test will be held on (Paper - Pencil Mode) will be held on 18th December 2016 (Sunday)
- First Session (i.e. Morning Session): 10.30 A.M. to 12.30 P.M (IST);
- Second Session (Afternoon Session): 02.00 P.M. to 04.00 P.M. (IST);
It is an entry level test for Chartered Accountancy Course, which is held twice a year in June and December for registered students of Common Proficiency Course (CPC).
The test comprises of four subjects viz., Accounting, Mercantile Laws, General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude with an objective to test basic knowledge in these subject areas. This test is for 200 marks and is divided into two sessions of two hours each with a break in between. CPT is an objective type test with negative marking. Subjects are to be studied in CPT as follows:
- Session-I (Two Sections - Two hours - 100 marks)
Section B: Mercantile Laws (40 marks)
- Session-II (Two Sections - Two hours - 100 marks)
Section D: Quantitative Aptitude (50 marks)
CA CPT Syllabus for Common Proficiency Test 2016
Candidates appearing for CA CPT Exam should possess basic knowledge of subjects like fundamental accounting, mercantile law, quantitative aptitude and general economics. Syllabus for all the mentioned subjects is as given below:
- Fundamental Accounting: Introduction to Company Accounts, Partnerships Accounts Theoretical Framework, Depreciation Accounting, Bank Reconciliation Statement etc.
- Mercantile Law: Different types of acts like goods act 1930, Indian contract act 1872 and Partnership act 1932
- Quantitative Aptitude: Basic concepts of differential and integral calculus, sets, functions and relations, simple and compound interest, ratio and proportion, logarithms and Indices
- General Economics: Economy reforms in India, theories on production and cost, demand & supply and microeconomics

Eligibility for Common Proficiency Test 2016
Students who wish to pursue Chartered Accountancy Course can register for the Common Proficiency Course (CPC) after passing 10th examination and can appear for CPT either on appearing or on passing 10+2 examination
Students who wish to pursue the next step of CA course are required to qualify CPT as well as 10+2 or its equivalent examination
How to Apply for for Common Proficiency Test 2016
- If you have already registered for the CPC with ICAI, you can directly proceed to fill the application form; if not, you must complete CA CPT Registration on or before 01st October 2016
- Applications for admission to Common Proficiency Test is required to be made in the relevant prescribed form as contained in the information Brochure, which may be obtained from the "Deputy Secretary (Exams) The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, lCAl Bhawan, lndraprastha Marg, New Delhi-110002" on payment of Rs.1500/- (Rs.500/- towards exam fee and Rs.1000/- towards cost of application form and information brochure) per application form
- The fee for candidates opting for Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai and Muscat centres will be US $170 (US $ 150 towards examination fee and US $ 20 towards cost of application form and information brochure) or its equivalent Indian Currency
- The fee for the candidates opting for Kathmandu centre are required to remit INR.1850/- (INR 850/- towards exam fee and INR 1000/- towards the cost of application form and information
- Common Proficiency Test application forms duly filled in may be sent so as to reach the Deputy Secretary (Examinations) at New Delhi not later than 27th October 2016; applications received after 27th October 2016 shall not be entertained under any circumstances
- The candidates who fill up the examination application form online at http://www.icai.org/ from 06th October 2016 (10.00 hrs) to 27th October 2016 (17.30 hrs) and remit the fee online by using either VISA or MASTER Credit/Debit Card shall not be charged Rs.1000/- (i.e. cost of application form fee)
Question Paper Booklet Language
Common Proficiency Test is an objective type multiple choice questions based examination. Candidates will be allowed to opt for Hindi medium Question Paper Booklet for answering the questions. Detailed information will be found given in the Information brochure
Note: To appear in the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) students have to fill separate exam application form as per the Notification/Announcement issued by the Exam Division of the Institute in the regard
