Valeo Innovation Challenge 2017


About


Valeo is offering young students worldwide the opportunity to make the car of 2030 and the way it's used more intelligent, intuitive, green and fun. Comprising teams of two to five people, students from any discipline can take part by presenting a relevant, innovative project in English. The aim is to stimulate the students’ creativity, enabling them to form multidisciplinary teams.

The Valeo Innovation Challenge is part of Valeo’s innovation strategy, supported by the company’s annual Research and Development budget of over €1 billion.

The aim of the contest is to reward an innovative automobile-related project (technological innovation or idea for a new way to use cars) that is the product of the imagination of students worldwide.They are required to come up with an innovation which would, between now and 2030, make the car and the way it is used more intelligent, clean, intuitive, green and fun.

The Group is seeking to raise student awareness of the challenges that careers in the automotive industry can offer them.

The project can be submitted to any of the two categories:


  • The innovation prize for the best technological innovation
  • The idea prizes for new ways of using the car



Lists of teams that have already registered- A lot of teams from India have already participated from various IIt and NITs, BITS Pilani, VIT, SRM University, KIIT University, etc.

Whole process is divided in three phases, as mentioned below:



  • Phase 1 : Registration and Submission
  • Phase 2: Proof of Concept
  • Phase 3: Final Presentation


Eligibility Criteria


  • Gender: Any
  • Region: Global
  • Class/Age: Student


Details: 

  • Nationality: There is no restriction on the nationality of the participation candidate.
  • Educational Qualification: The students willing to participate in the challenge should have completed their high school education.
  • Participation: Students from engineering, technical and science schools and universities can participate in the challenge by forming interdisciplinary teams of 2-5 members.
  • Travel Documents: The candidates participating in the challenge must have a passport and all documents required to travel outside their country of residence



Not eligible to participate


Employees associated with organizers and related companies and their children are not allowed to be a part of the challenge.

Rewards


A first prize of €100,000 (Approx. INR: 70 Lakhs) will be awarded on completion of the contest in each of the following categories:

  • The innovation prize for the best technological innovation
  • The idea prize for new ways of using the car



The second prize for each in these two categories is €10,000 (Approx. INR 7 Lakhs). The deadline for submitting entries is February 1, 2017 at 12 noon, French time.

  • The organizer will handle all travel arrangements to Paris for all members of the eight finalist teams, including round trip airfare and hotel stays.
  • This doe not include meals, beverages, travel insurance, personal expenses, trips and entertainment.



In Game Challenge Benefits


The 24 teams selected on completion of Phase 1 shall each be provided with an amount of five thousand euros.For the purpose of putting their idea into practice and creating a functioning proof of concept.

The prize money will be distributed evenly among all team members by bank transfer.

Team: Teams may be multidisciplinary in nature and include a designer, sociologist, philosopher, urban planner, etc. No changes to team composition will be permitted once it is submitted.

Selection Process


The selection criteria for the projects are:

  • Bold, innovative and original idea of the project (“Best Innovation” category / “Best Idea for a new way to use cars” category);
  • Challenges and relevance of the problem dealt with and factoring in of society’s expectations;
  • Knowledge of technical / related matters;
  • Feasibility and construction of proof of concept;
  • Quality of presentation.

Phase 1: Registration and Submission

  • Last date of registration of teams and submission of the projects: January 31, 2017
  • Project evaluation: February 1, 2017
  • Result of Phase 1 : March 17, 2017


Phase 2: Proof of Concept

  • Launch of proof of concept: March 18, 2017
  • Proof of concept submission deadline: July 7, 2017
  • Announcement of the 8 Finalists: September 13, 2017


Phase 3: Final presentation

  • Presentation of the finalist projects to the jury: October 2017
  • Awards ceremony: October 2017
