- Mathematical Olympiads is conducted by different organisations to identify, encourage, promote and nurture the talent in mathematics at state, regional, national and international level.
- CBSE was accorded a status of an Independent Group in 1997 by NBHM for conducting the Maths Olympiad in the country and since then it has been conducting the olympiad ever year

Eligibility Criteria
- Any student studying in class 9 to 11 can participate in the maths olympiad.
- However, there will be a common question paper for all participants. Bright students from class 8 may also appear.
- A school can sponsor maximum five students for the competition.
- The five students should be selected strictly on the basis of a screening test conducted by the school itself.

- The head of the participating schools will forward the names of the selected students to the state coordinator(venue school) nominated by the Board. The selected candidates should be bonafide students of the school/institution.
- Personal Details & Mark Sheet: The information about the selected students including name, father’s name, date of birth, school address, class, residential address, total marks obtained in the class one lower than in which he/she is studying, should be sent to the state coordinator along with the fee before the last date.
Registration Fees for the maths olympiad
- Every sponsored candidate shall remit a sum of Rs. 100 as entry fee for the examination.
- The fee of the candidates should be forwarded by the principal of the participating school to the venue principal (centre) in the form of demand draft drawn in favour of the principal of the venue school.
Selection Process
- The five students to be be sponsored by the school should be selected strictly on the basis of a screening test conducted by the school itself for appearing in the CBSE Group Maths Olympiad 2015
- The answer sheets of candidates who appear in CBSE GMO will be evaluated at CBSE Headquarters. CBSE will select a maximum of 30 candidates strictly in order of merit.
- Only the selected candidates will be informed about the result and will be eligible to appear in the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad conducted by NBHM.
- The name of the selected candidates will be communicated to respective schools as well as NBHM for further necessary action
