32nd Eisaku Sato Essay Contest

About


  • Eisaku Sato Essay Contest is organized in the fond memory of Eisaku Sato, former Prime Minister of Japan and 1974 Nobel Peace Prize Winner..
  • The candidates are required to submit an essay either in English or Japanese written on the theme announced for the contest.
  • Participation: The submission for the 32nd Eisaku Sato Essay Contest can be done either online by email or offline by post.

Eligibility Criteria


  • Nationality: The contest is open for citizens of all nationalities.
  • Age & Profession: There is no restriction related to the age and profession of the participants.



Reward


The candidates selected as the winner of the contest will be entitled to the following prizes:
  • Grand Prize: The essay selected as the winner of the Grand prize will get cash prize worth 500,000 Japanese Yen (Approx. INR 2.6 lakh)
  • Second Prize: The winner of the second prize will get cash prize of 200,000 Japanese Yen (Approx. INR 1.07 lakh)
  • Honorable Mentions: Several candidates will be awarded with cash prize of 50,000Japanese Yen (Approx. INR 26,000).




Application Mode




The candidates willing to be a part of 32nd Eisaku Sato Essay Contest can submit their entries either online or offline. The details related to the competition and its application process is:

  • Theme: The entries to be submitted for the 32nd Eisaku Sato Essay Contest should belong to the following theme: “Considering the multiple and pressing challenges the United Nations faces today, what is the proper role of the Secretary-General as top international public servant? Discuss the required qualities and discipline of a Secretary-General in view of the practices and achievements of the successive Secretary-Generals.”
  • Language: The essays can be submitted in either in English or in Japanese.
  • Word limitFor the essays written in English the word limit needs to be between 3,000–6,000 words, while for essays in Japanese the word count needs to be between 8,000–16,000 characters.
  • Abstract: The essay needs to be accompanied by an abstract of up to 450/1200 words in English/ Japanese.
  • Cover Sheet: The information related to the Name, affiliation, age, gender, nationality, mailing address, e-mail address, telephone/fax number (if available), and a note on how you learned about the contest of the candidate should be mentioned in the Cover sheet which is to be sent along with the essay.
  • Submission: The submission of the essay can be done either online or offline and participants are requested to use any one of the submission method. The details are:
  • For Online Submission: Both the cover file and the essay are to be sent as a single document. The title of the document needs to be the complete name of the participant and the document should be mailed to ‘essay@satoeisaku.com’.
  • For Offline Submission: For offline submission, 4 copies of the essay should be printed on A4 size sheets and postmarked before March 31, 2016. The address on which the documents are to be sent is:

Selection Process


  • The winner of the contest will be notified by September 2016.
  • Winners  who are able to attend will receive their prizes at a ceremony to be held at the United Nations University in Tokyo.
