- The Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is an all India entrance examination conducted on rotation by 16 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admissions to their under-graduate and post-graduate degree programmes (LL.B & LL.M)
The 16 participating NLUs in the order of their establishment are:

2) National Academy of Legal Study & Research (NALSAR) University of Law, Hyderabad
3) National Law Institute University, Bhopal (NLIU)
4) The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Kolkata (WBNUJS)
5) National Law University, Jodhpur (NLUJ)
6) Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur (HNLU)
7) Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar (GNLU)
8) Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow (RMLNLU)
9) Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala (RGNUL)
10) Chanakya National Law University, Patna (CNLU)
11) National University of Advanced Legal Studies, Kochi (NUALS)
12) National Law University Odisha, Cuttack (NLUO)
13) National University of Study & Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL)
14) National Law University & Judicial Academy, Assam, Guwahati (NLUJAA)

Now there are 16 participating NLUs and following the practice the eighth Common Law Admission Test (CLAT 2016) will be conducted by the Dr. Ram Manohar Lohiya National University, Lucknow

Programme Offered
The Under-Graduate Programme offered by the National Law Universities:
The Sixteen NLUs offer a five-year integrated under-graduate law courses leading to the award of
- B.A. LL.B (Hons),
- B.Sc LL.B (Hons),
- BBA LLB (Hons),
- BSW LLB (Hons),
- B.Com LLB (Hons) degrees.
- While BA LL.B (Hons) is offered by most of the universities,
- B.Sc LLB (Hons) Course is offered by WBNUJS (Kolkata), NLU (Jodhpur) and GNLU (Gandhinagar);
- BBA LLB (Hons) is offered by NLU (Jodhpur), GNLU (Gandhinagar), CNLU (Patna) and NLUO (Cuttack);
- whereas BSW LLB (Hons) and B.Com LLB (Hons) degree courses are offered by GNLU (Gandhinagar) alone
Eligibility for CLAT 2016
- Educational Qualification for UG Programme: A candidate should have obtained Higher Secondary School/ Intermediate (10+2) or its equivalent certificate from a recognized Board with not less than 45% marks in aggregate (40% in case of SC/ST candidates), as prescribed by the respective Statutes of the participating Universities
- Age for UG Programme: A candidate should be below 20 years of age as on 01st July 2016 (22 years in case of SC/ST and Persons with Disability candidates, as prescribed by the respective Statutes of the participating Universities
Exam Pattern CLAT 2016
The CLAT-2016 Question Paper for UG courses shall multiple choice type questions as per the following scheme
- Maximum Marks: 200
- Duration of CLAT-2016: 02:00 Hours
- Total Number of Questions: 200
- Negative Marking: 0.25 Mark/wrong answer
Subject areas with weightage
- English including Comprehension: 40 Marks
- General Knowledge and Current Affairs: 50 Marks
- Elementary Mathematics (Numerical Ability): 20 Marks
- Legal Aptitude: 50 Marks
- Logical Reasoning: 40 Marks
