World of 7 billion Student Video Contest | by United Nations

About 



  • Population Connection's advocacy programs aim to influence public policies, attitudes, and behavior on national and global population issues and related concerns.
  • Eligibility: All middle school and high school students are eligible to enter the 5th Edition of the competition.
  • Considering the interdependence of people and the planet, create a short (60 seconds or less) video that illustrates the connection between population growth and one of the global challenge mentioned below as themes.

Theme: Theme of the competition is 

  • Deforestation – erosion, clearing for agriculture/pasture, impacts on climate, biodiversity or habitat loss
  • Public Health – spread of communicable disease, air quality, sanitation, maternal/reproductive health
  • Water Scarcity – aquifer depletion, water conflicts, pollution, impact on girls’ education, irrigation




Inclusions in Video: All videos must include

  • How population growth impacts the issue?
  • Why the issue is important?
  • At least one idea for a sustainable solution?






Eligibility Criteria


  • Gender - Both
  • Region - India and Other Countries
  • Class/ Age - Class 9 to 12





Application Mode


  • There are no paper forms needed to enter a video. 
  • You will need to fill out the online entry form when you upload your video (you’ll be prompted to the form after you click the “Upload” button).

  • Fill in the details in the form and submit. 
  • If your video is chosen as a finalist, you will need to submit a signed Parent Permission Form and a signed Actor Release Form (for each person who appears in your video).
  • Important to Note: Finalist videos CANNOT be awarded a prize unless the necessary forms are received.





Selection Process



Decisions will be made based on the following Criteria: 
  1. Does the video follow the guidelines?  
  1. Quality of Video 
  1. 35% Content Clarity: Does the video clearly make the connection between population and the chosen topic? 
  1. 35% Memorable/Interesting: How well does the video draw in the listener and keep their attention? 
  1. 20% Creativity: Is the video original and something we haven’t seen before? 
  1. 10% Production: What is the overall quality of production (including visual and sound elements)? 




Reward


For High School Students:

  • First Prize $1000
  • Second Prize $500
  • Honorable Mentions - $250


For Middle School Students
  • First Prize $500
  • Runner Up - $250







Important Dates


  • Last date to apply :- February 25, 2016
  • Finalists from each topic area will be notified on April 4, 2016.
  • All winners will be notified directly no later than May 10, 2016.
