KVPY 2016- Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana

About



Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is a scholarship program funded by the Department of Science and Technology of the Government of India, to attract exceptionally highly motivated students for pursuing basic science courses and research career in science.


KVPY 2016 Aptitude Test is scheduled to be conducted on November 6, 2016 in online mode and the applications for the same begins from July 18, 2016.


The KVPY fellowship/scholarship programme, which is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, is held to attract and motivate students across the country to pursue a research career and basic science education. The students can apply for the KVPY 2016 till August 30, 2016.


It will be a two step selection process comprising of a written aptitude exam and an interview. The written test will consist of 120 questions and students qualifying the test will be called for an interview based on which they will be awarded scholarships. KVPY 2016 exam will be a pencil and paper based test to be conducted in both Hindi and English language at the various notified centres across the country.


There is no prescribed syllabus for the aptitude exam and students are assessed on the basis of their Class 10th, 12th, undergraduate or postgraduate syllabus, whichever is applicable. KVPY is a test of analytical skills and conceptual knowledge.



The students who qualify the KVPY Exam are granted direct admission in some of the prestigious science research in India:

  • The Indian Institute of Science, Banglore
  • All India Institute of Scientific Education and Research (IISER)



Eligibility Criteria


  • Gender: Both
  • Region: All Indian nationals (Expect OCI and PIO's)
  • Class/ Age: Class 11th Science, class 12 Science and 1st-year students of undergraduate Programme in Basic Sciences


Details:

The exam conducting authority selects students of class XI to first year of undergraduate programme in Basic Sciences B.Sc/B.S/B.Stat/B.Math/Int. M.Sc/M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology.


These students can be divided into three streams:

Stream SA:

  • Students registered in Class 11th (Science Subjects) for the academic session 2015-2016 and have secured at least 80% aggregate in Science and Mathematics (70% for SC/ST/PWD) in class 10th Board examination.
  • The fellowship of students selected will be started once they enrol for a Basic Sciences undergraduate course (B.S./B.Sc./ B. Math./ B. Stat./ Int. M.Sc./M.S.) in the academic session 2017-2018 after securing at least 60% aggregate in Science subjects in Class 12th (50%for SC/ST/PWD) board exams.


Stream SX: 

  • Students registered in Class 12th (Science subjects) for the academic session 2015–16 or in the second year of education in Cambridge International Examination Board and aspire to pursue Basic Sciences undergraduate program (B.S./B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.Stat./ Int. M.Sc./M.S.) in the academic session 2016-2017. 
  • After securing at least 80% aggregate in Science and Mathematics (70% for SC/ST/PWD) in class 10th board exams and at least 60% aggregate in Science and Mathematics (50% for SC/ST/PWD) in class 12th board exams.



Stream SB: 

  • Students registered in the initial year of a Basic Sciences undergraduate program (B.S./B.Sc./ B.Math./ B.Stat./ Int. M.Sc./M.S.) for the year 2015-2016 after securing at least 60% aggregate in Science subjects  (50% for SC/ST/PWD) in class 12th board exams and must  obtain 60%marks  (50% for SC/ST/PWD).


Besides this, a specific number of fellowships will be granted to students belonging to the category of disabled (Visually or Physically challenged).


Not Eligible for the KVPY 2016 fellowship

  • students with PIO and OCI card are not eligible.
  • students willing to pursue/ pusuing undergraduate course from distance education are not eligible.
  • a student pursuing B.Tech/ MBBS after class 12 are not eligible for the KVPY Fellowship.
  • a student pursuing B.Tech/ MBBS after class 12 are not eligible for the KVPY Fellowship.



KVPY Reward


Monthly Fellowships and Contigency Grant


For SA/SX/SB (1st to 3rd years of B.S. /B.Sc. / B. Math. / B. Stat. / Int. M.Sc. /M.S.)
  • Monthly Fellowship: Rs. 5000
  • Annual Contingency Grant: Rs. 20,000


For SA/SX/SB (during M.Sc. /M.S. / M. Math. /M. Stat.)

  • Monthly Fellowship: Rs. 7,000
  • Annual Contingency Grant: Rs.28,000


KVPY Summer Program: 


  • Summer program is an important part of the nurture program for the KVPY Fellows. These are meant to expose the Fellows to methods of scientific search and inculcate in them an abiding interest in doing scientific research. 
  • Summer Program for the KVPY Fellows is arranged at the Indian Institute for Science Education and Research (IISER) - Kolkata, Pune, Mohali, Bhopal, and Trivandrum for a week.


Other Privileges


Each KVPY Fellow will be issued an Identity Card so as to have access to National Laboratories/ Universities who have agreed to extend special privileges like library, laboratory facilities, etc. to KVPY Fellows on production of the ID card.


Note: KVPY 2016 fellowship for the students under the stream  SA/SX/SB will be started after the class 12/ (10+2)/ 1st year UG, ONLY if they pursue an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences.


How to Apply


KVPY 2016 application process starts from July 18, 2016 and continue till August 30, 2016. The candidates are required to fill in online application forms along with remitting the requisite fee. 



You can download the admit card for KVPY 2016 from the second week of October 2016.



KVPY Application Fees


There are three steps to complete your application successfully;

Step  1.  Registration.

Step 2. Filling personal and academic details, choosing test centre and uploading photo, signature and other certificates as applicable.

Step 3.  Payment of application fees. Please note that you must pay the fees only at the KVPY application portal. This can be done either by using a credit card/ATM-Debit card/Net Banking or by downloading a Challan from the application portal. 

No other means of payment will be accepted. Once payment is successful and application submitted no refund will be done.

KVPY processing fees can be remitted at any core banking branch of state bank of india to the credit of Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna (KVPY) A/c Number 10270577392.
  • If the candidates choose to pay the exam fees through Challan, then they will have to take a printout of Challan and make a payment in any SBI Branch before the due date.
  • After the payment is complete candidates must re-login to upload a scanned copy of the duty filled challan and Bank details. Your application will not be complete without uploading the challan.


Selection Process


Aptitude Test: 

After scrutiny of application forms and meeting the eligibility criteria for various streams, all eligible students will be called for  aptitude test conducted both in Hindi and English at different centers across the country on Sunday, the 6th November 2016. 

The details of the venue of the aptitude test for the eligible students and their seat number will be published in the KVPY website during the second week of October 2016.


Admit Card

Students  may download the admit card for the aptitude test from the website from the second week of October 2016.

Interview: Based on the performance in the aptitude test, short-listed students will be asked to appear for an interview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.

The KVPY Application Fee 2016 for various categories is as below: 
  • For General Category/OBC: Rs 1000
  • For SC/ST/PWD: Rs 500


Exam Pattern


The candidates can appear in the aptitude test in either for format – computer-based and paper-pen mode. 


A total of 80 questions are asked for SA stream and 120 questions for SB/SX stream to answer in the OMR-sheet. There is no prescribed syllabus for the aptitude test, but students are tested according to their syllabus of Class X/XII/First year of B.Sc/B.S/B.Stat/B.Math/Int. M.Sc/M.S, whatever is applicable.


Based on the performance in he aptitude test, short-listed students will be asked to appear for an inteerview which is the final stage of the selection procedure.

Cut-off Marks for KVPY


Stream SA - 50 out of 100 Marks
  • SA - SC/ST - 40 out of 100 Marks
  • SA - PWD (Person with disability) – 40 out of 100 Marks


Stream SB - 48 out of 100 Marks
  • SB - SC/ST -34 out of 100 Marks
  • SB - PWD (Person with disability) – 34 out of 100 Marks


Stream SX - 57 out of 100 Marks
  • SX - SC/ST - 40 out of 100 Marks
  • SX - PWD (Person with disability) – 40 out of 100 Marks
