Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai, invites applications for Admissions to Diploma in Nautical Science leading to B.Sc. (Nautical Science) programme of February 2017 Batch in respect of candidates sponsored by shipping companies.
The admission to Diploma in Nautical Science will be done through and All India Common Entrance Test (CET). The Computer based entrance test will be conducted on January 7th, 2017.
Common Entrance Tests for Admissions to DNS–Feb 2017 Batch
- Admission to DNS programme of the Affiliated Institutes will be through All India Common Entrance Test for which the candidates have to appear.
- The Application Fee is Rs.1000 for General candidates and Rs.700 for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates.
- The Syllabus for CET for UG programmes will be Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, English, General Knowledge and Aptitude at Plus 2 level (CBSE, ISE and State Boards).
- The questions will be of Multiple Choice Type.
Eligibility Criteria
- Academic Qualification: Pass in (10 +2) or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60% the candidates should have obtained 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th Std.
- Age Limit: Candidates belonging to General and other backward classes, categories, the date of birth should fall between 2nd February, 1991 and 21st February, 1999.
- Candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST), the date of birth should fall between 2nd February, 1986 and 1st February, 1999.
- Physical Fitness: Candidates for admission to DNS course are required to produce certificate for medical fitness by authorities authorized by Director General of Shipping. Candidates with Disability (DA) are not eligible for admission to marine courses.
- In case of appeal, the same will be referred to a medical board appointed by the Indian Maritime University. The decision of such medical board shall be final. Cadets are subject to further medical examination by the respective shipping companies before joining ships.
- Candidates must possess good binocular vision (Fusion faculty and full field of vision in both eyes). Movement of the eyeballs must be full in all directions and the pupils should react normally to light and accommodation. Candidates joining DNS, Leading to B.Sc., (Nautical Science) course are not allowed to wear glasses and their vision should be 6/6 (normal) in each eye separately.
How to Apply

- Provision for printing filled Challan for making payment through Offline mode payment
- Online Registration of Applicants with facility to upload photographs scanned signatures and online payment of Registration Fees and to download and print filled-in applications in standard formats.
- Provision for online payment of Registration Fees has been made. The successful payment of Registration Fees to the account of IMU will be a mandatory requirement for completion of Registration formalities.
- The Application Fee is Rs.1000 for General candidates and Rs.700 for Schedule Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates.
- Applicants to download their Hall Tickets/Admit Cards with the name of the Test Venue indicated.
- Automated e-mails/SMS to every registered Applicant on successful registration of Application, uploading of Hall Ticket, publication of results, etc.
- Conducting the CET at the designated Test Venues.
- Evaluation of answers and publication of CET results within 3 days.
Test Centres
The Computer-based CET for IMU’s DNS Leading to B.Sc.(Applied Nautical Science)programme is scheduled to be held on Saturday, 07th January 2017 in the
Afternoon between 2 pm and 5 pm in a single shift.
They will be held simultaneously in the following 12 cities across India:
- Bangalore
- Bhopal
- Chennai
- Cochin
- Guwahati
- Hyderabad
- Jaipur
- Kolkata
- Lucknow
- Mumbai
- New Delhi
- Patna
The Applicants can give 3 preferences for the cities where they wish to take the CET while registering online

NOTE: Applicants are requested to periodically visit the IMU’s website www.imu.edu.in to keep track of new announcements and changes if any. This is very important.
