- The Joint Entrance Examination JEE-Advanced is an all-India examination administered and conducted in seven IIT zones across the country by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) for admission to Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s and Dual Degree programs in the sixteen IITs (IIT Bhubaneswar, Bombay, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Chennai, Mandi, Patna, Roorkee, Ropar, Varanasi) and the Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad.
- All the candidates aspiring to take admission in the undergraduate programmes at IITs and ISM Dhanbad, for the year 2016 will have to appear in the Paper-1 of JEE (Main)-2016, which will be conducted by JEE Apex Board during the month of April, 2016
Eligibility Criteria
All the candidates, including foreign nationals, must fulfil each and every one of the following five criteria to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2016.
- Criterion 1 – Performance in JEE (Main) 2016: Candidates should be among the top 2,00,000 (including all categories) by scoring positive marks in Paper-1 of JEE (Main) 2016.
- The percentages of various categories are: 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for
SC, 7.5% for ST and the remaining 50.5% is OPEN for all. Within each
of these four categories, 3% horizontal reservation is available for
PwD (including Dyslexic) candidates.
- Criterion 2 – Age limit: Candidates should have been born on or after October
1, 1991. Five years relaxation is given to SC, ST and PwD candidates, i.e., these
candidates should have been born on or after October 1, 1986.
- Criterion 3 – Number of attempts: A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) a
maximum of two times in consecutive years. Therefore, candidates who
appeared in JEE (Advanced) 2015 for the first time are also eligible.
- Criterion 4 – Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination: The candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in all the subjects in either 2015 or 2016.
Admission to IITs and ISM
The candidates should satisfy at least one of the following two criteria for admission to IITs and ISM:
- Must have secured at least 75% aggregate marks in the class XII (or
equivalent) Board examination. The aggregate marks for SC, ST and PwD
candidates should be at least 70%.
- Must be within the category-wise top 20 percentile of successful
candidates in their respective Class XII (or equivalent) board examination.
