Bhai..Main to Science le raha hun; Aage bahut scope hai..!!

"I am going to take science in Class 11th. It has got a lot of potential" - Is it not one of the most common declaration that many of us hear or would have heard at the crucial juncture of choosing streams post class 10th?

Or how about an even better line, which is the most common sentence that has been either spoken or heard by the students belonging anywhere between class 6 to class 10 “Main to engineer banuga”

There is nothing wrong in becoming an Engineer or a Doctor for that matter. They both are highly respected and well-paid jobs in the market, but they are not the only ones.

A 16 year old, who is due to appear for his board exams, most probably gives in to the custom of being told what they have to do; or merely gets influenced by what their friends are choosing. More often than not, all of them go through the same stages and finally land themselves in a herd without making aware and intelligent decisions.
» WAKE UP Guys..!!
» STOP FOLLOWING MINDLESSLY..!!
» APPLY BRAKES..!!
» THINK…THINK MORE…., and THINK a little more…!!
» WEIGH your Options..!!
» ANALYZE your SKILLS..!!
» LISTEN to your HEART…!!
...Kuch to alag karo yaar… Wo karo jo karna chahte ho, naa ki wo jo sab kar rahe hai…

Do not be afraid…. do not feel shy….& do not worry at all. Success will always come your way, if you do what you want to do. So just chill and relax. Make an informed and aware decision.

Choose your stream the "Innovative way" rather than the old traditional way.

I know the next few questions from all of you wonderful and intelligent souls would be somewhat like –
  1. What is this Innovative way of choosing career streams?
  2. How the Innovative way of choosing stream is different than the traditional way?
  3. How can the traditional way not work out, if it worked for our parents and for parent’s parents too?….and so on..!!
Let us deal with all such mind-boggling questions (sir dard karne waale sawaal) ..in just one shot..BOOM..!!

The word "Innovative" defines and answers the question in itself. The word “Innovative” itself points out - "ki kuch to naya tareeka hai" (definitely there are some new ways to decide). Naya Tareeka yeh hai ki - stop being just told to. I am not saying that do not listen to your parents or teachers. It is very important to listen to them, so definitely listen to your parents and teachers, but try and apply your own judgment as well. Ask few questions to yourself, like:

For Example – You have been told to become an engineer, because:
  • Being an engineer brings assurance of a job in future
  • There are so many IT companies around
  • Engineering is one of the most well-known careers
  • Your friend/ neighbor/ cousin/ sibling is also doing engineering
  • Your father/ relative(s) have contacts in more than a dozen IT companies, so landing up with a job won’t be a problem.
  • Being Engineer is cool (told by your best friend)
  • You will earn big
  • Your parents will feel proud if you become one

All of the above may be true, but all of these are the "External Factors" which can be very well classified as the "Traditional Approach of choosing a Career".

So, are you just going to choose the entire course of your life based on external factors?

Do you love your parents based on external factors, such as - they look good/ they have loads of money/ they have contacts – I think the answer would be NO.

You love them because they are your parents; because they are the ones who gave you birth; who brought you up, so that you could breathe, experience, live, love; because they too love you and care for you unconditionally – These are the factors more close to you – these are the "Internal Factors" very close to your heart and hence you love them against all odds.

Now, don’t you love yourself? Don’t you want to be happy through-out your life?

Of-course, you love yourself and you want to be super happy and happy through-out your life. So why make decisions based on only the "External Factors" in choosing your stream. You do not choose your stream just for one year, not for one decade - it will stay with you FOREVER, for your whole life.  So wouldn't it be wiser to connect to your inner self as well before you take the final call.

To achieve that, you need to follow a different thought mechanism and adopt the "Innovative Approach of choosing a Career".

Thus, before making a decision - Ask yourself:
  • Am I good at calculations
  • Do I love applying logic to every single problem out there
  • Do I love to follow a step by step process
  • Does Physics appeal to me
  • Do I love to solve chemical equations
  • Do I wonder that how such enormous computing power can be installed into just one machine – Computer
  • Can I work with deadlines

These are just some of the "Internal Factors" that will help you considerably in making a decision. Always try to make a decision with a proper mix of different aspects.

So guys to make a little and a confident start, just as a 1st step towards your own larger good, take a pledge today:
"ki aaj se keval ye sun ke ki -- “Bhai..Main to science le raha hun…aage bahut scope hai..” – koi bhi decision nahi loge" - The decision (before taking) should be well discussed, truly analyzed, and well thought of.
