The Oberoi School of Hotel Management, which is situated at New Delhi, is an institute, which is run by the Oberoi Group of Hotels. This Hotel Management institute conducts and convenes the Hotel Management Program by the Name "Systematic Training and Education Program" which is also called the STEP.
Systematic Training and Education Programme (STEP) offered by the Oberoi Group is a three year duration programme. As part of STEP, candidates are offered practical training at one of The Oberoi Group of hotels.
Candidates who are shortlisted for Oberoi STEP are trained in a hotel’s core operational departments – Front Office, Food and Beverage Service, Housekeeping and Kitchen.
Candidates who secure admission in STEP programmes are regularly reviewed by means of written as well as practical assessments. Apart from this, “Appraisals will be conducted to support the development of appropriate attitude and behaviour. A transcript of achievement is issued at the end of each year”, informs the official website.

Courses Offered
There are 2 Programs and Courses in the Stream of Hotel Management, which are provided by the Oberoi School of Hotel Management, given below:
- The Hotel Operations Program: This Program usually comprises of several sections within the 3 Primary Hotel Operations Department, namely (i) Food and Beverage; (ii) Front Office and (iii) Housekeeping
- Kitchens Operations Program: The Kitchen Operations Programs mostly comprises of education and training in the Indian and Western Kitchens, apart from that it also imparts education in specializing kitchen operations such as Bakery, Cold Kitchen and Pastry
These programmes provide
- Three years on the job training in Hotel
- 6 Days a week in hotel (full time) for 3 years
- Undergradute study through Correspondence.
- Learning which is helpful for a career in Hospitality Industry
- After successful completion of the STEP programme the student receives a graduate degree as well as a certificate of proficiency
- The application process for these programmes begins in February each year. The programmes commence in August.
Oberoi STEP Programme 2017 Highlights
- No fees: Candidates are not required to pay any fees for training and education
- Monthly Allowance: Trainees will receive a monthly allowance
- Accomodation: The hotel will provide the facility of accomodation on a shared basis
- Meal and uniforms: On duty Uniforms and meals will be given to the candidates
- Medical Insurance: Provision of Medical Insurance
- Leave: 3 weeks annual leave and 3 weeks examination leave
- Dedicated weekly day for study.

Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum requirement: The candidate should be above 18 years and below 20 years of age, as on 15th August of the year of the commencement of the programme.
- The candidate should have attained a clear pass in class XII as on 1st July of the year of the commencement of the programme, from a board recognized by the Indira Gandhi National Open University, India.
- For Hotel Operations Programme (Front Office / Food and Beverage Service focus) and Kitchen Operations Programme
- Academic Qualification: The candidate should have obtained 61% marks or above, in English in class X. The equivalent in CBSE is a B2 Grade or a 7 Grade Point.
- For Hotel Operations Programme (Housekeeping focus):The candidate should have obtained 51% marks or above, in English in class X. The equivalent in CBSE is a C1 Grade or a 6 Grade Point.
How to Apply
Form can be filled online only. There is no written examination for admission in STEP Program as well as no application charges. The selection of the STEP program is based on personal interviews.
STEP 1: Fill the application form
STEP 2: Select the venue and date for your selection process:When you fill the form, options to select the city, date and time for your selection process will be available by February.
STEP 3: Print and submit the form: Candidates have to take a printout of their completed application form and bring this application form along with one passport size photograph on the date of your selection process.
Selection process
- Come to the venue of the selection process on the date you have chosen.
- Please arrive on time. You will not be admitted once the process starts.
- On the day of the interview, the candidate must bring the following documents with him/her:
Self attested copies of the following:
- One print-out of their application form along with one passport-size photograph.
- One copy of their class X certificate. If the candidate's certificate does not mention their date of birth, one copy of their birth certificate will be required.
- One copy of their class XII certificate.
- The candidate should be deemed medically fit by our company doctor.
- All the testimonials should be verified as authentic.
- A typical selection day will commence with candidates registering for one of the Programmes.
Thereafter, the candidates would go through three rounds of selection activities:
- Round 1: Candidates are divided into groups of 15-20 participants and are taken through a round of activities and questionnaires. Here, the evaluator checks the candidates grooming, poise and spoken English.
- Round 2: Short-listed candidates from Round 1 are taken to another round of activities on the same day including a one-on-one meeting with a panel comprising of faculty. Here, the evaluator gets to know them better and checks their aptitude for hospitality.
- Round 3: Short-listed candidates from Round 2 will be invited for another round of activities and questionnaires including a final interview with a panel. This may be on a different day and city than the above two rounds.
